IN Meningitis Cases up 1, Ameridose Recall

indiana state department of health Indiana health officials now report 49 cases of fungal meningitis in Indiana, with the number of deaths remaining at three. Meanwhile the Indiana State Department of Health says they are working with hospitals, clinics, local health departments, and health care providers, to ensure all products from Ameridose, LLC, are removed from circulation following a national recall on Wednesday. Ameridose is the sister company to the New England Compounding Center, which produced the contaminated back and joint pain steroid injections linked to the recent outbreak. Officials report the voluntary recall is not based on reports of patients with infections associated with any of Ameridose's products, but was recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration out of an abundance of caution, after an inspection of the facility concluded a lack of sterility assurance for products produced and distributed by Ameridose, LLC. Authorities say the Ameridose products have been out of circulation since October 6th and there have been no reports of infections nationwide.

Bridge Project Affects Train Schedule

The Northern Indiana Transportation District (NICTD) says because of the Torrence Ave. bridge project eastbound Train 203 will temporarily depart all stations 15 minutes earlier beginning today (November 2nd).  John Parsons of NICTD says this change should enable all westbound rush hour trains to run with minimal delay through the Torrence Ave. construction project.  In addition, eastbound Train 205 will make all stops between Hegewisch and Gary, according to Parsons.

Mid-day and evening trains may still encounter delays of 10-20 minutes traveling eastward from Kensington and westward from hammond.  NICTD says that they are restricting trains to one track as they shift the South Shore to a new alignment over Torrence Ave. west of Hegewisch.  Double track operation should return by mid-November, according to NICTD.

The commuter line is also asking passengers to arrive at their departing stations on time in the event delays are shorter than expected.  NICTD apologizes for any inconvenience and is working to complete this project as quickly as possible.

For service updates check their website at:  www.nictd.com/news.html
