Indiana State Police District 13 in Lowell reports a LaPorte woman was airlifted from Interstate 94 after a vehicle she was riding in went out of control and rolled over at least four times. Police say a preliminary investigation by Sergeant Jack Clute revealed that just before 11:00 a.m. today (Jan 28) a 2008 Mazda pick-up was west bound on I-94 in the middle lane at the 20.5 mile marker (1 ½ miles east of the Portage exit) when the driver Jeremy Morgan, 33 of Michigan City lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway, officials say, and rolled at least four times before coming to rest on its roof into a fence near a tree line. Police say Jeremy was wearing his seat belt and had minor injuries. His sister, Jessica Ann Morgan, 25 of LaPorte, was also wearing her seat belt and was airlifted from the scene and taken to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois with life threatening injuries, police say. Traffic east and west bound was closed for a short time for the landing of a medical helicopter on scene. Indiana State Police remind motorists that wind and sub zero temperatures may cause icy/black ice conditions on the roadways, especially on bridges and ramps.
