A decorated, retired military veteran has been appointed to become the new Executive Director of the Michigan City Human Rights Department. Mayor Ron Meer told the Region News Team they had a lot of good candidates apply for the job, but Jeff Deuitch's 22 years of military service in the army stood out. During his tenure in the Army, serving tours of duty in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and Korea, Mr. Deuitch’s responsibilities included time as an Equal Opportunity Advisor handling EEO complaints as he worked in various positions such as Operations, Human Resources and Training. Mr. Deuitch has a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University and is a 1990 graduate of Michigan City Elston High School who has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and many other awards during his military career.
