Signals Being Removed from Part of Broadway

Through a partnership with the city of Gary, the Indiana Department of Transportation is removing traffic signals from six intersections on Broadway -- at 16th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th Avenues, a stretch of lights just north of where Broadway intersects the Borman. Matt Deitchley from INDOT Northwest told the Region News Team that there were low traffic volumes on the east-west sides of the intersections.  Deitchley says interruption to traffic should be minimal while work is taking place, and that was scheduled to begin this week. Traffic on Broadway will have the right-of-way, with Stop signs, overhead Stop signs, and”Stop Ahead” signs being installed.
