LaPorte PD Attribute Increase in 2014 Crashes to Winter WX

Police in LaPorte attribute the severe weather conditions experienced in the first quarter of this year for the increase in personal injury traffic crashes. LaPorte Police report they have investigated 29 crashes so far in 2014 compared to 26 from the same time a year ago. The number of property damage investigations has also increased, from 132 in the first quarter of 2013, to 188 so far in 2014.
The most dangerous intersections in La Porte in terms of traffic crashes so far this year are:
  • E Lincolnway/Boyd Boulevard with eight crashes.
  • Lincolnway/Tipton Street with seven crashes.
  • E Lincolnway/Frontage Road with four crashes.
  • Pine Lake Avenue/Waverly Road, I and Sixth Streets, Lincolnway/Michigan Avenue, Lincolnway/Indiana Avenue and Kingsbury Avenue and Monroe Street with three crashes each.
Police say this month officers will be conducting Operation Pull Over funded seat belt patrol as well as impaired driving patrols every weekend.
