Governor Mike Pence Thursday directed the State Budget Agency to release 200-million in funding for projects along I-65 in central Indiana, including widening a busy stretch near Lafayette from State Road 26 to State Road 38. It's part of the highway construction program in House Enrolled Act 1002, which was signed into law in Valparaiso last week and ceremonially signed again yesterday in Indianapolis. The measure is expected to put the state in a position for additional roadwork money, some of which might go toward widening I-65 between Merrillville and Lowell in conjunction with the proposed Illiana Expressway. The other 200-million in the bill, which can't be spent until the state's budget situation is reviewed at the end of year, could go toward interstate projects in central and southern Indiana, including I-65 in Lafayette from State Road 25 to State Road 26.
