It is Work Zone Awareness Week in Indiana, marking the ceremonial start to the highway construction season. INDOT Spokesman Matt Deitchley told the Region News Team since 2010, 47 people have been killed and over two-thousand injured in Indiana work zone crashes. Deitchley says work zones are more dangerous for motorists than INDOT workers, with four out of five people killed in Indiana work zones being drivers and their passengers.
Deitchley says INDOT will be holding a public event on Wednesday, April 9th, from 9am-to-12pm, at the westbound I-94 Welcome Center in Michigan City, to learn about the importance of staying alert in work zones. The public is invited and will have the opportunity to take pictures inside INDOT vehicles and meet INDOT staff.
