A 21 year old man wanted for one-count of murder and two-counts of attempted murder, who had remained at-large since being discharged in late February from an Illinois hospital without being arrested, turned himself in today. John Kaznowski, with the US Marshals Service, told the Region News Team Mark Cherry surrendered himself at the Lake County Jail, with his attorney present, around 10:30am. Cherry was wounded in an alleged home invasion in Gary on December 1st, in the 62-hundred block of West 29th Avenue, and transported to a Chicago hospital for treatment.
Police in Gary say it was a miscommunication that allowed the suspected murderer to check himself out of a hospital and walk back onto the streets.
