Indiana Governor Mike Pence and LaPorte Mayor Blair Milo today joined executives from Alcoa, a global aerospace manufacturer, to announce the company's plans to expand its operations in LaPorte, creating up to 329 new jobs by 2019. Alcoa will invest one-hundred million dollars to construct and equip a new 320-thousand square-foot facility that will produce nickel-based super-alloy jet engine parts, adjacent to its current 200-thousand square-foot LaPorte facility, which was founded in 1957 and currently has 470 associates.
Governor Pence is also scheduled to make several stops in Lake County this afternoon, where he will keynote the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Hammond, followed by an announcement of a 71.4 million dollar project to improve a congested passenger and freight rail line between Porter and the Illinois state line. Governor Pence will then wrap up his visit with a stop at IU Northwest School of Medicine where he'll detail the state's HIP 2.0 plan to cover uninsured Hoosiers.
