The future of a historic and well-known place in Merrillville may hang on the balance of an upcoming inspection. The Times reports a structural engineer will take a look at the former Old Mill to see how much it would cost to make necessary repairs. The building, just west of Broadway on 73rd Avenue, was built in 1851 and is one of the oldest structures in town. It's been home to different restaurants and other businesses over the years, but it's been vacant now for a while. The town recently acquired the property at no cost.
