A 26-year-old Chicago woman who died after a boating mishap on Lake Michigan was a 2012 graduate of the Valparaiso University School of Law, according to the Times today. Officials say Ashley Haws was found by the Coast Guard unconscious in the cold lake water and was pronounced dead at a Chicago hospital from hypothermia. Haws was with three others on a boat that reportedly caught fire and capsized during a voyage from New Buffalo, Michigan, to Burnham Harbor in Chicago. The accident happened Saturday night but the boat wasn't reported missing until fisherman Joel Reiser spotted one of the boaters early Sunday and rescued him about seven miles off the Chicago shoreline. That boater, who also suffered hypothermia, remains hospitalized and two others at last word were still missing.
