NHTSA Investigating Airbags That Could Cause Injuries

Federal investigators are looking at more than a million vehicles for problems with airbags that could cause injuries. ABC News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it got six complaints about rupturing airbags. In one of them, a lawyer says the airbag burst open during a crash and shot a one-inch piece of shrapnel into the driver's eye. No reports of deaths - but now investigators are looking at one-point-one million cars, made by Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Chrysler and Toyota - model years 2002 through 2006. The vehicles in question have airbags made by the Japanese supplier Takata. NHTSA is trying to figure out just how many of them might be potentially dangerous.
