Today (June 16) through this Friday (June 20) Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District reports they're temporarily busing passengers between South Bend and Carroll Avenue in Michigan City as the commuter line upgrades a segment of their overhead wire system east of Michigan City. The new system is the same as the one installed west of Michigan City several years ago. NICTD says the “rigid technology” of the old wire and fixed attachment system is subject to failure, causing lengthy service disruptions, and is being replaced with a “dynamic, lighter, auto-tensioned system”.
