Last week Franciscan Medical Specialists Sleep Lab donated two complete bedroom furniture sets to Gabriel's Horn, a short-term shelter for homeless woman and their children in Valparaiso. Mignon Kennedy, Executive Director of Gabriel's Horn, told the Region News Team some of the women who exit the program find a place to stay, and they start to get back on their feet again, but have no furniture. Kennedy says this donation has brought a lot of joy to two of their resident families who now have beautiful bedroom furniture to put in their new apartments.
Gabriel’s Horn Shelter provides a protected refuge for homeless women and their children by establishing and maintaining a facility which will provide for them a safe and temporary shelter and outreach services. They empower women by giving them the tools to become self-sufficient through collaboration with community, education, and counseling.
Sam Martino, Facilities Manager at Franciscan Medical Specialists, helped make this donation possible by coordinating efforts for the move. “I am very happy that we could connect with Gabriel’s Horn” says Martino, “I’m confident that the furniture will be put to good use. We couldn’t do it without our warehouse team who so willingly moved all of the furniture.”
Kennedy says if you would like to make a donation just visit their website http://gabrielshelter.org/ or contact them at (219) 242-2799. She says they also often need household supplies like laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towels and other cleaning supplies.
