An overnight fire destroyed a house, shed, garage and a pickup truck in northwest Indiana today, officials say. Union Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Beach told the Region News Team Union Township and other area fire crews were dispatched to the 700 West block of County Road 50 North, a rural area on the far western side of Porter County, at 3:30 am, and first police officers on the scene advised that the house was fully involved. Beach says one Union Volunteer firefighter was treated on the scene for smoke and heat-related injuries and the homeowner's son was treated for smoke issues. Beach says three people were home at the time, and all had gotten out of the house. County Road 50 North will be shut down from 675 West to Lake/Porter County Line Road for some time today as the fire investigation continues.
