A Crown Point man has been charged with reckless homicide and causing death while operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance regarding a fatal crash on March 31st. The Times reports Joseph Barrera Jr. was charged on Friday and at this time is not in custody. According to the article, Barrera was heading east on 109th Avenue in Crown Point around 5:44am, when he crossed into the westbound lane and struck another vehicle, driven by an Illinois woman who died at the scene. A toxicology report showed Barrera had a controlled substance in his system and police reportedly found a cigarette that tested positive for marijuana at the scene. Barrera was allegedly speeding at the time of the crash
