Exchange your gas can, help save the environment... Porter County residents have that opportunity today at a Lake Michigan District Household Waste collection program at Portage High School. Kathy Luther, Director of Environmental Programs for Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, says NIRPC gives you a leak-proof and no-spill new can in exchange for a old one that's leaking harmful gases, leading to air pollution, and leaking gas itself, leading to water pollution. The gas cans are first-come first serve while supplies last. The household hazardous waste collection for Porter County residents is from 9am to 2pm.
