Michigan City Police say a phone call starting with “8-5-5” is scaring, and attempting to be scamming, a lot of people throughout LaPorte County.
Police say the caller states they're from the “Fraud Protection Agency” and you and your banking information have been compromised, then they ask you for your account and routing numbers. Police say they will also use different phone numbers. Residents afraid they may have been scammed are urged to contact Michigan City Police Sgt. Chris Yagelski.
