A newly-announced group made up of local religious leaders is speaking out against the new federal health care law requirement, the “HHS Mandate,” that employers, including Catholic hospitals and parochial schools, include coverage without co-pays for birth control and abortion-inducing medication in their health care plans, organizers say. The Coalition for Religious Liberty in northwest Indiana was represented by clergy from several Roman Catholic and Protestant churches in their announcement Wednesday. “Stand Up for Religious Freedom” rallies are planned around the country this Saturday, including locally, outside the Lake County Government Complex in Crown Point and Sacred Heart Church in LaPorte.
