A man was found dead in his vehicle Thursday afternoon, in the parking lot of the former visitors center at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, due to an apparent suicide. Published reports say around 12:45 that afternoon, two hikers returning to their vehicle in the lot, heard a “pop” sound, saw the man in his car, and called police, who stated the man died as the result of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
