Northwest Indiana winters are a yearly challenge for Region motorists. Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed Nov 11-17, 2012, as Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana. The American Red Cross and the National Weather Service recommend that your winter survival kit be stocked with the following items: shovel, ice scraper, flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, blankets, battery booster cables, sand or a bag of kitty liter and a car charger for your cell phone. Also, make sure to include some high calorie, non-perishable food items.
