Afternoon rush hour Wednesday for the South Shore Line was affected by a disabled train in East Chicago. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, or NICTD, reports that overhead wire damage cause by an earlier eastbound temporarily suspended service east of Hammond, causing three eastbound trains and two westbound trains to be canceled. At last check, maintenance crews were on the scene to assess damage and make temporary repairs to restore service, but at this time there is no estimate on how long that could take.
