Medicare and social security scams are very common and have been the topics of discussion at various times but this time Hobart police are reporting is hitting closer to home.  Police say they have received several tips from Hobart residents receiving calls from "Medicare" or "Social Security."  The callers perpetrating the scam may sound believable, and ask residents to confirm their address and other personal information for a new card or to update billing information, according to police.  Medicare and Social Security do not ask your bank account number or credit card information however, if you are called by Medicare/Social Security Hobart police offer the following tips:
Do not give out any personal information, and hang up
Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 to inquire about/report the call
Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to inquire about/report the call
Always feel free to report any incident you believe to be a scam to the Hobart Police Department at (219) 942-1125.  Hobart police appreciates any/all tips and strive to keep the community informed of all current scams.
