A 39 year old LaPorte Man was taken into custody Thursday evening on charges of child neglect and public intoxication. LaPorte Police report they were dispatched at 6:12pm, to Kesling Middle School, to investigate an intoxicated parent who was attending a football practice with his children in the vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle in question running, with a seven-year old child seated inside. Officers were directed to Lance Dieken, who observed yelling and who allegedly had difficulty maintaining his balance. Police Dieken informed officers he came to pick up his six-year old son and drive home. Officers report Dieken allegedly smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated, and they advised him he would not be allowed to drive due to his impaired state. The children's mother was contacted and arrived to take custody of the children and police say a copy of the report has been forwarded to Child Protective Services.
