Eleven years after the 9-11 attacks not every town and community in the country has kept honoring the event. The town of Schererville is hosting a symbolic groundbreaking tonight for a new memorial to remember the terrorist attacks. The key piece of the town's memorial was a piece of steel from one of the fallen World Trade Center Towers—which according to Schererville Fire Chief, Joe Kruzan, was not easy to come by.  Chief Kruzan says after a failed first attempt because everyone was saying that no steel was available, his Deputy Fire Chief Bob Patterson contacted a fire department on the east coast who told Patterson to contact the New York Port Authority, which he did.  Kruzan says two days later a 14-foot I-beam from one of the fallen World Trade Center Towers, was on its way.  When asked why Schererville was holding it's 9/11 ceremony tonight on September 10th, Kruzan says they are accomodating the schedules of persons who might be at work or school tomorrow morning.  The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. tonight in the police department parking lot  located at 25 E. Joliet Street in Schererville.  Kruzan says everyone is invited to attend.
